Happy Financial Aid Awareness Month!

Happy Financial Aid Awareness Month! New York City is proud to announce November as Financial Aid Awareness Month, an effort to increase the number of first-generation and low-income students who submit their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). A recent report from the National Association for Admission Counseling (NACAC), indicated that one barrier students encounter to financing college is they do not know who can provide them guidance on how to pay for their education. We are trying to address this barrier by providing school staff with trainings, tools, and resources to help our students successfully apply to college and access financial aid. One of these tools is the FAFSA completion data portal developed in partnership with the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC). The portal provides school staff with real-time FAFSA and TAP completion data for all graduating seniors. In this edition, we focus on things your school can do to help seniors complete their FAFSA by November 30, which is the priority deadline for students to access Work Study and other federal funds that are allocated on a first come first serve basis. Visit this hub of College and Career Planning resources for additional professional development opportunities, student scholarships, college fairs, and toolkits.
